There’s no getting away from it. Writing can be a lonely career. Many people long to become writers because they seek time out from their busy lives and workmates and feel that writing would be a nice career to choose with all that solitude and being able to make the choice of when to work or not.

The reality is that writing is a hard slog with many hours spent alone and many years of honing your skills so that you can write proficiently and successfully. Many writers choose a life of solitude not so much out of the need to get away from socializing with people but for the need of a quiet place to write without distractions and this is what begins the downward spiral of loneliness and sometimes even depression.

Part of the loneliness is not having anyone else around you that likes to writes to discuss issues or problems you are having. Only a fellow writer can really understand what you are going through. There are things you can do to numb the feeling of loneliness like switching on the radio, television, internet, dialing a friend on the phone or logging on to You Tube, social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc or by joining an on-line writing group.

Before long you will be looking at your fake Rolex Submariner watch and wondering whatever you did all day – the day has flown.
